Cheile Turzii Race

3 Jul

Cheile Turzii Race was an event dedicated to more sports: Mountainbiking, Cross Run and Climbing trying to promote Cheile Turzii (or Turda Gorge in English). I first though to participate to another race, but due to the long way there I’ve decided to change my plans and have a training race closer to my home. So in the morning I packed the bike took Simona and went at Cheile Turzii.

There where waiting us the organizers, and my ex team mates Tudor and Oli, but Robike from Mures was also there. Marius and Alex came later but still in time.

After the registration I’ve made a reconnaissance lap. The course was pretty old-school, having an long uphill, a long downhill and another couple of sprint climbs. Nothing really technical or challenging but was still hard with 200m of climbing each lap (a lap had 4km). And most was in open field being so damn hot, around 30C in the sun.

Overall there were about 20 riders, but I think that this happened because the guys didn’t promoted really good the event. Anyway the race was on. Tudor and Oli in a great shape pushed the pedals really hard and for me was difficult to keep the same rhythm. They were around 20-50m ahead but I tried have a good training run.

After about an hour I’ve finished 3rd. Not good enough but also also not bad. I will try to improve myself for the upcoming races..

Many thanks to Simona who was next to me, as usual, to everyone that cheered me up and to everyone sponsor involved in this. Without all of you would be impossible.

You can see more photos on Cristi’s Max facebook album, but also HERE.

And if you are in the area, please visit Cheile Turzii, you will be surprised ! And I also hope that for the next year the organizers will do more to attract more riders !
