National XCO Championship 2017

13 Aug

Or the point of no return.

Just 10 days after my little son was born I had to race the Romanian XCO Championships. I didn’t knew that I won’t sleep or train too much these days so I wasn’t to optimistic. But I had to try.

I’ve arrived with my dad on Friday evening in Zarnesti, I’ve just checked the course which was more on the local motocross ┬átrack and on some of the trails around. Dry, dusty and partially too narrow.

Checking the forecast and it wasn’t too good. 35C at 2PM when the start for Elite was scheduled. Had a good dinner and even a better sleep. I think it was the best sleep in the past 10 days before this race.

Race day was here and I was feeling nervous. But I went like I had nothing to loose. I tried to play safe, not to fall or something because the most important thing was to finish the race. After the first lap I’ve started to feel the lack of power and the heat was hitting me. I was lucky to had my dad at one feed zone and Iustin with Eli (from NoMad team) at the other. Like this I kept the hydration at a decent level but also had some ice cold water to chill.

Wasn’t my best race, in fact was a bad race, but managed to end 6th and grab the necessary points for the next season World Cup races. And that’s the most important thing.

Many thanks to my dad for joining me to the race and for his support, many thanks to Eli, Iustin and everyone else who helped me at the feedzone.

Last but not least many thanks to my sponsors for their support. You rock !

See you soon.

Cheers,

Vlad
