Baia Mare Marathon

6 Jul

It’s a competition with 11 years of history and this year I’ve decided to do the “race” course as a preparation for the upcoming XCO events. Was a last minute call so I didn’t had to many expectations.

Got there in the morning of the race, just in time to put the race number and do a quick warm up. I didn’t knew the course at all somy tactics were to go safely. Everything went pretty well, but most of all because I was going in a group for a long period of time and because I had the track on my Garmin device. Unfortunately on the last descent I got lost, losing more than a minute to get on the track. I’ve won my age category but overall I was third 5 minutes behind the winner and 20 seconds behind the 2nd place.

It was a good training but the registration fee wasn’t worth the race. Poor signs almost all over the course, even some of the local riders got lost or headed wrong by marshals. At the end we didn’t even received a glass of water (everything being charged extra) and we also had to find a car wash to clean our bikes because the organizers didn’t had anything at all. Maybe they will read their reviews from facebook and the race reports from other riders and they will fix these small, but important things for the future.

Yeah, the photo below is from another event because there were no photographers on the course. It’s a pity. The good thing is that I met my cousin, who’s from Baia Mare, living in Spain and he came back for a short visit.

Many thanks anyway to my family and sponsors for their support. I look forward for a better future.

Cheers,

Vlad
